Member Biography
Floyd McKneely has more than 40 years of experience in the diesel engine industry and has served most of that time in an executive position, including the creation and running of his own business.
His career began at the Caterpillar Company in Houston, Texas, followed by a position at the world’s largest Diesel engine distributor, Stewart & Stevenson in Beaumont, Texas, where he became the youngest service manager ever. Later he moved to Louisiana to start a new company to service the offshore industry and farm pumps. It was during that time that Floyd became interested in the global marketplace by bidding on and winning contracts to perform repair work on ship engines for the governments of El Salvador, Honduras
and Nicaragua, working through such entities as the World Bank and other multilateral development banks. It was also during that time that McKneely and his partner were awarded the contract to overhaul and renovate the engines of the famous Calypso, the oceanographic vessel which was used by Jacques Cousteau during his years of underwater exploration to produce his TV specials and films.
Floyd returned to Texas in 1988 and served as general manager for a diesel engine remanufacturer, and in 1995 formed FBM Trading Co. with his wife, Rebecca, and their two sons. Floyd McKneely has traveled abroad extensively, believing that personal contact is the most important aspect of developing a good relationship with his customers.
He attended Lamar University Technical School where he obtained his degree and Diesel Technology Certification, and continued his education through technical courses conducted by Detroit Diesel, Delco Remy, Euclid, Twin Disc and E-MD (Electro-Motive Diesels, Inc. railroad locomotives) and Caterpillar.
Floyd was presented with the Export Achievement Award by Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, and the National Conservation Award by Ducks Unlimited. He is a member of the North Texas District Export Council, was appointed to the Congressional Economic Development Board for South and Southeast Fort Worth, and is active at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Hurst.
