The North Texas District Export Council (NTDEC) is one of the nationwide networks of DEC's which make significant contributions to America's international competitiveness. It is a diverse group of volunteer International Trade Professionals representing regions throughout North Texas.

The District Export Councils contribute leadership and international trade expertise to complement the U.S. Commercial Service's export promotion efforts through counseling businesses on the exporting process and conducting trade education and community outreach. The primary objectives of the NTDEC are to educate the community about free trade and its benefits, and include "how to" education to promote exports by companies in our area.

Mission

The NTDEC also lobbies state and federal legislatures to promote issues that can have a positive affect regarding international trade for the North Texas Region. The NTDEC works with the North Texas U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) to accomplish our goals.

Establish monthly meetings that last no more than 1.5 hours at a time and place that generally works for the committee. 

Avoid over commitments of time by executive committee members. 

Expand executive committee for more member/associate participation to share work load. 

Executive committee to work with Committee Chairs on delegated assignments.

Establish liaison relationship between executive committee and committee chairs, assigning committee oversight to executive committee members.

Develop annual master budget

Hire virtual assistant.  Assess utilization monthly and annually.

Conduct detailed stakeholder assessment on annualized basis to reflect on value and success of current programming and goals.

Engage membership such that all members and associates are actively involved. 

Assess member benefits and develop array of existing and potential future member benefits to encourage more participation.

Expand membership, including members and associates, to include more exporters (manufacturers and service exporters).

Expand associate membership to provide pipeline of qualified member candidates.

Increase network of exporters and export information and opportunities for members/associates.

Give back to the membership. 

Expand & encourage business & networking opportunities for membership.

 

Create 10 question survey for members/associates and send survey via survey monkey for anonymous responses to address programming, events, participation. 

Executive Commmitee and Commmitee Chairs to follow up with members/associates in person to discuss what they get/want out of their DEC membership.   

Exe Com and Com Chairs to reach out to in active DEC members to encourage them to participate.

Each DEC member/associate to bring one new potential DEC Member/Associate (exporter or manufacturer) to a DEC meeting or event each year.

Utilize manufacturer database and engage manufacturers listed in database, inviting to events, meetings, sending them information regarding the DEC and USEAC. 

Feature DEC member/associate of the month on the website.  Feature DEC member/associate each month in “Expert” Q&A feature on the website.  

Allow active members to place company logos on website.  Minimum activity threshold to be defined. 

Establish outstanding NTDEC member and outstanding associate of the year awards. 

Allow time for networking at meetings, events, etc.  Note networking time on agendas and invitations. 

Offer discount registration fees for DEC events/forums/luncheons for membership. 

But consistently enforce participation requirements.   Re-assess and update participation requirements.

· Assess website on an annual basis for improvements to traffic, accessibility, management.

· Work with other DECs on cost sharing.

· Work with other DECs on possible state wide overall website sponsorship program and revenue split.

Legislative Affairs

  • · Actively engage DEC members in outreach to municipal, state and federal representatives on trade and international business initiatives and promotions.
  • Host one or two forums annually for interaction with representatives. 
  • Schedule visits by DEC members to representative offices locally to inform representatives about the DEC and to discuss trade matters of importance affecting North Texas. 
  • Communicate with local representatives regarding international trade matters of importance affecting North Texas.

Marketing & Sponsorship

Raise awareness about the NTDEC and our mission in North Texas

Provide sponsorship opportunities and program for businesses with the DEC

 

  • Work with website committee to expand/improve marketing reach of website.
  • Expand social media reach of DEC on LinkedIn, Twitter.
  • Work on featured DEC members/associates on website.
  • Work on outreach to area chambers to establish awareness of DEC and strengthen relationships.
  • Work on outreach to other trade organizations to establish awareness of DEC and strengthen relationships.
  • Contact potential sponsors about sponsorship opportunities.
  • Implement and improve annual sponsor program.
  • Implement and improve events sponsor program.   Harmonize with annual sponsor program.
  • Create website sponsorship program. Consider no fee or discounted fee for active members/associates. Develop threshold activity level for same.

  • Develop/improve DEC database of contacts.  Improve open rates.   Work with membership on utilization of manufacturing database and outreach. 
  • Develop annual marketing plan and budget.

Scholarship/ Charitable Opportunities

· Create scholarship opportunities for students and/or funding opportunities for SMEs.

· Export American goodwill and spirit by supporting an international charity

Develop & implement an annual scholarship program for students in international business and/or fund structured internship program for USEAC office in Dallas.

· Select a worthy international charity to support to allow our members/associates/friends to give back to the broader world community.   For example:  housing, clean water, energy,  microfinance, etc.
