Texas Companies Tap Global Markets, Spur Economic Growth
Exports are big business for Texas companies - U.S. Department of Commerce, U.S. Export Assistance Centers announced that Texas has become America's top exporting state.



International Trade Grows Faster and Faster
One of the most striking transformations not only of the United State's economic landscape, but also of Texas', has been the increasing importance of international trade - particularly in recent years. For example, between 1970 and 1987 merchandise exports as a share of U.S. gross domestic product edged up from 4.1 percent to 5.3 percent. By 1999 the share had grown to 10 percent. Over the same latter period, 1987 to 1999, Texas' exports as a percentage of Texas gross state product rose from 8.3 percent to 14.4 percent.
