2005 Houston Export Excellence Awards

On May 24, 2005, the Houston District Export Council, in conjunction with the Port of Houston Authority and the Houston Airport System will sponsor the first annual Export Excellence Award Luncheon at the Hilton of the Americas, 1600 Lamar St. The award will honor a Houston area company, organization or individual that excelled in the promotion of exports. The award(s) will highlight the crucial role of exports to the Houston area economy and recognize the recipients' efforts to promote and expand area exports. Companies of all types, individuals, and public and private organizations active in all areas related to exports generally are eligible to receive awards. Nominees may include private companies, individuals from the private, nonprofit and public sector, trade associations, institutions of higher learning, chambers of commerce and governmental agencies. Multiple categories, e.g. banker, business person, education and transportation, professional services and trade promotion, of awards may be granted by the selection panel depending upon the quantity and quality of nominations received by the sponsors. Nominees must meet one or more of the following criteria:

• Contributed significantly to the expansion and promotion of Houston's exports;
• Increased or maintained employment through the expansion of international trade activity;
• Raised the level of understanding of the export process (within or outside company or organization);
• Enhanced or contributed to the image of Houston as a location for international trade; Provided visionary leadership;
• Designed programs that educate Houston's business community or general public as to the importance of exports to the Houston economy.

Nominating bodies or individuals must provide a narrative justification describing how the candidate has met one or more of the criteria. The award recognizes accomplishments for the year 2004 but may include career/life time awards.

A special selection panel will evaluate and select the nominees. The Houston District Export Council, the Port of Houston Authority and the Houston Airport System will present the awards during a luncheon on May 25 in conjunction with World Trade Week activities.
