Member Biography
Jerry Mitchell is the lead Adjunct Professor for the Export Education and Growth (EEG) program at the Austin Community College and teaches other international classes. The EEG program includes seminars and trade missions for the small business. He also served as Executive Director of the International Center of Austin from 2005-2006. The International Center is a non-profit working to promote international educational, cultural, and business activities in the Greater Austin area. Prior to his work with the ICA, Jerry spent 29 years with the U.S. Foreign Commercial Service helping U.S. business overseas. He last served as Senior Commercial Officer in Mexico from 2002-2004. From 1999-2001, he served as Deputy Director General for the Commercial Service, the top career position in the Service. Prior to assuming those duties in 1999, Jerry served in Korea, Belgium, Greece, Canada, and two African countries. He also serves on the Latin American Business Advisory Council of Texas State at San Marcos and on the University of Texas’ Center for European Studies Advisory Council. Jerry speaks French, Spanish, and Greek.

The International Business Institute, a regional leader in international trade education and part of the Austin Community College District, offers an innovative and exciting program designed to make businesses in Central Texas more profitable and recession-proof. This unique and new program will feature eight day-long seminars, one multi-day trade mission to Monterrey , Mexico, and an opportunity for a second trade mission at the end of the program. The EEG offers participants an opportunity to learn everything they need to know to be successful in exporting, from international marketing, trade regulations, legal issues, and finance to how to negotiate with potential overseas partners and how to get paid with the least risk possible.
