Texas' export shipments of merchandise in 2008 totaled $192.1 billion, the largest figure among the 50 states. Texas' exports rose $74.7 billion from 2004 to 2008, the largest dollar gain among the states. Eleven metropolitan areas in Texas exported over $1 billion in merchandise in 2007. The leading metropolitan area in exporting was Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown with $62.8 billion in merchandise exports in 2007. This area represented 48 percent of Texas exports, and ranked as the second largest metro area exporter nationally. Other major metropolitan areas in Texas that exported in 2007 included Dallas-Forth Worth-Arlington ($22.1 billion), El Paso ($$9.6 billion), Austin-Round Rock ($8.4 billion), Laredo ($4.7 billion), McAllen-Edinburg-Mission ($4.0 billion), San Antonio ($3.6 billion), Brownsville-Harlingen ($2.9 billion), Beaumont-Port Arthur ($1.9 billion), Corpus Christi ($1.6 billion), and Victoria ($1.3 billion). |
